History
The Southern California Chapter of Delta Chi was formed in 1910 by the members of
the Lex Chambers Law Club. Their petition to become a Delta Chi chapter was approved
at the 16th International Convention in Columbus, OH on April 8, 1910. On May 20
and 21, 1910, the chapter was installed and the first members were initiated into
the Brotherhood of Delta Chi.
In 1987, the Southern California Chapter voted to reorganize the chapter. Because
of financial concerns and other issues, the chapter initiated a new founding father
class. Since that time, the chapter has grown and thrived.
The hard work and tenacity of these members paid off when the chapter was awarded
USC’s President’s Cup award in 2003. In 2006 the chapter was awarded a Certificate
of Achievement from Delta Chi Headquarters and in both 2007 and 2008, the chapter
was awarded a Regent’s Cup. In addition to these chapter awards, many individual
members of the chapter have been honored in the past few years. In the last three
years, many brothers have been inducted into both USC’s Order of Omega and the honor
society Gamma Sigma Alpha. Also in the last three years, two brothers each have
been inducted into USC’s Order of Troy and into the Skull and Dagger Society. Last
year, one brother was named USC’s Greek Man of the Year.
For the past five years the chapter has had at least one member serving on the Executive
Board of USC’s Interfraternity Council including an Executive Vice President of
Judicial Affairs and the IFC President.
In 2006, Delta Chi and the sorority Alpha Chi Omega won USC’s Homecoming. For over
ten years, Delta Chi and the sorority Kappa Kappa Gamma have teamed up to compete
in USC’s Songfest.
For nearly 100 years now, the Delta Chi fraternity has been a staple of the USC
community. The Southern California Chapter of the Delta Chi Fraternity is looking
forward to celebrating its 100th anniversary in May of 2010.
